Standing at 8,848.86 meters, the highest peak on Earth offers the ultimate adventure experience.
Mount Everest, known as Sagarmatha in Nepali and Chomolungma in Tibetan, is Earth's highest mountain above sea level. Located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas, the international border between China and Nepal runs across its summit point.
The mountain was first surveyed in 1856 and named after Sir George Everest, the British Surveyor General of India. The first confirmed ascent was in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. Since then, over 6,000 people have reached the summit, with many more attempting the climb each year.
The Everest Base Camp trek is one of the world's most famous treks, taking approximately 12-14 days round trip from Lukla. The journey passes through Sherpa villages, Buddhist monasteries, and offers stunning views of peaks like Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse before reaching base camp at 5,364m.
The Everest region is home to the Sherpa people, renowned for their mountaineering skills and hospitality. Visitors can experience their unique culture, visit ancient monasteries, and learn about their Buddhist traditions at Tengboche Monastery and other sacred sites.
Climbing Everest requires extensive preparation, experience with high-altitude climbing, and significant financial investment. The climbing season is limited to April-May, when weather conditions are most favorable. Most climbers spend 60-75 days on the mountain for acclimatization and summit attempts.
The best time for trekking to Everest Base Camp is during the pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (September to November) seasons. These periods offer clear skies, moderate temperatures, and excellent visibility of the mountains.
The journey to Everest begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860m), one of the world's most adventurous airports. From Lukla, trekkers begin their journey on foot through the Khumbu Valley to Everest Base Camp.
